Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs are trialling a verification scheme this week in the busiest online week of the year for its tax return service. A small selection of people using the self-assessment tax return system online will be expected to verify their identity during this trial period. According to their blog;
“We are not seeking to test our ability to handle large volumes and peaks in traffic at this stage with the service. We’re working on that separately so we’ll be ready to meet the growing demand for Gov.uk Verify across the range of services.”
There are plans to fully open the Verify service to users from February.
